Hello! We had so many great pictures today that I have to send them in two separate e-mails! Thomas and I got alittle (or alot) of anxiety last night over Layla. Thomas had noticed a couple of days ago and brought it to my attention yesterday that she didn't smile unless being tickled or bounced, etc. So we replayed the last 20 days over and over again until we finally called our international doctor in Birmingham. She of course specializes in international adoption and has a couple of her own that she has adopted. Our concern was that Layla may be autistic. The last thing we should have done was to go on the internet last night to research autism in babies. Of course most, if not all, the websites are talking about children never being in an orphanage. So after tossing and turning all night, waiting to go to the baby house...we were bound and determined we were going to get her to smile. Of course, you all are probably remembering the time we were in Rochester and thought Kalista was deaf! So needless to say, we had a great day! She doesn't smile alot, but we feel she is fine. The doctor told us that alot of times these children are so smart and it just takes awhile for them to trust and connect. All they have ever had are themselves and the caretakers who are there to feed, dress and bathe them. We continue to see improvements in her crawling, pulling her self to a standing position and connecting to some degree with us. We wish we could just take her home and move forward. One of the things that we remembered last night and shared with the doctor that we have a video of Jager reciting John 3:16. Everytime we play that video to Layla, she smiles and giggles! She obviously has some kind of connection with Jager. We have replayed that video on numerous occasions and always get the same reaction from her. Until tomorrow!
This picture is our all time favorite!
Love,
Thomas and Amy
